Shakedown Sail- Sardina to Gibralta
Updated: Jun 6, 2022
The plan was to get from Sardinia to La Linea Spain as we had lined up a friend to help us do some work on the boat, tick off a couple of the big 'must haves' which is new rigging ( the boat has the original rigging since 2003), new dinghy and outboard and budget permitting new davits at the back of the boat to install more solar and hoist the dinghy so we didn't always need to have it on board.
As I was scheduled to fly to NZ and the purchase of the boat co-incided with that Iain decided to sail it from Sardinia. Wonderfully the past owner was keen for a sale as far as Minorca and he also managed to second an experienced sailor from the island to also join. From Majorca to La Linea our friend Julian would join however as weather and time played against them Julian departed in Alicante and Iain managed to second Rene, a dutchman via Crewfinder to join him the rest of the way.
It was a great opportunity to learn the boat, understand its idiosyncrasies and ensure that our "must haves' list was still the right one.
